How To Write a Web-Designer Resume In 2021: 7 Tips

write a web designer resume

Web design jobs are hot property. As the internet expands ever further, more web designers are needed to fill the gaps. For many designers, writing a resume is something slightly outside their normal skillset. For those who need extra help, professional resume writers and editors can often be found at an essay writing service.

This article will examine several ways of writing and presenting a rock-solid resume that’ll have the job offers come pouring in. We’ll cover styles of resumes, what to include, what to exclude, and novel ways of showing your web developer resume to employers.

Use a Short and Sweet Header

The header section of your resume must contain your name and your contact details. Your name should be obvious, and your contact details should also be included. For a web designer resume, you’re going to need some links to your portfolio or your Github account.

You should also include your email address and phone number. There’s no longer the strong need to put your full address on a resume, in the age of the internet sharing this kind of information isn’t wise. Instead, you can put a rough area, and even include remote as a keyword to alert employers that you’re flexible.

Write a Succinct Introduction

The header is like the metadata, the introduction is a quick couple of sentences that give some color to your profile. For instance; “A junior developer with 3 years experience in front-end web design. Growing experience in managing teams and projects, skilled in Javascript and HTML.”

This introduction is like speed-dating, you can get information over quickly and hit some key notes while also demonstrating your personality. Make sure that this section, like all the other parts of your CV, is proofread and free of grammatical errors.

Listing Technical Skills

Job history and technical skills are both important to a web design resume. You might know lots of different frameworks and protocols, so the question is how to list programming languages on a resume to catch the eye of the person reading your CV.

Some resumes use skill bars, ranking your ability in certain languages out of five or ten. This can add a nice visual element to your CV, it’s an opportunity to showcase some design skills too.

If you’re writing a full stack developer resume you may want to include a flowchart that demonstrates how you work across the stack.

Sorting Your Experiences and Work History

While listing technical skills says what you can do, your experiences and your job history show how and where you’ve done it. This is vital as it’ll demonstrate you’re more than just talk. Anyone can write out a list of programming languages, but only those with experience will be able to link to live examples where these skills were put into practice.

For those entering into the industry, and even those who have been around a long time, it’s absolutely fine to include personal projects. A junior developer’s resume can be greatly improved by showcasing some passion projects as it shows commitment to the craft.

Education and Certification

Formal education isn’t necessary for a job in web design, development, or programming. However, if you have a Computer Science degree or something similar it is natural to include it on your resume. Even if your degree is outside the field, you may have learned to code on your own, it’s worth including as gaining a degree still shows dedication, and it can differentiate you from your competitors.

In addition to formal education, there are now thousands of online courses which can be included on your resume. Udemy, Khan Academy, and other MOOCs are all accepted as part of the coding education ecosystem.

In terms of programming certifications, you should absolutely include these in your resume. If you haven’t completed any then maybe doing so would boost your chances of employment. Microsoft, Citrix, Amazon, Cloudera, Google, Oracle, the list of companies that provide certifications is endless.

These certifications can be worth more than degrees as they’re practical and linked to products that are used in business today.

Show Your Individuality

While dedicated coders are great, companies also want to know about you. What makes you tick aside from creating beautiful websites or powerful apps? What sort of activities makes your life what it is? It could be sports, music, travel. Keep this section short, and humble, but show off some things that make you special.

Choose Your References

A great CV is one thing that can get you far, but references can take you even further. It isn’t always necessary to add these to your resume, instead, you can include a short section saying something along the lines of “References available on request”. This shows you’ve got connections lined up ready to vouch for you.

Hopefully, these tips will help you to finesse your resume into a stellar piece of work that lands you your dream job. Remember to proofread and spell check your resume, ask for advice from friends, colleagues, and peers. Most importantly, have fun with it and be confident in yourself.
